Old Jaffa Tour
Old Jaffa Tour (Jaffa / Tel Aviv area) – Jaffa, located in the southern part of Tel Aviv, is a port that goes back thousands in years in time (mentioned in the biblical stories of Solomon, Jonah, and St. Peter). The local travel firm “Shuk TLV Tours” (www.shuktlv.co.il) conducts guided tours of Old Jaffa and its port – which was conquered by the Ancient Egyptians (Pharaoh Thutmose III), falling later to Canannite and Philistine domination. King David and his son King Solomon used the port to bring in Lebanese cedar (used to build the First Temple in Jerusalem). Alexander the Great had some of his troops stationed there during his campaign in Israel. The Crusaders (under King Richard the Lionheart) occupied the port in 1191 AD. After subsequent occupations by Arab groups, the Ottoman Turks conquered it in 1515, and Napoleon seized it in 1799.
For Christian tourists, one site of interest in the Jaffa area is the gardens surrounding the Russian Orthodox Church. There, a tomb is there to commemorate Peter’s raising of Tabitha from the dead (Acts 9:36-43). All these historic points and more are covered in this tour.
