Garden of Gethsemane

Garden of Gethsemane (Jericho Road, East Jerusalem) – another significant site for Christians, this was where Jesus and his disciples were said to have prayed the night before his crucifixion by the Romans. Since then, this site has been visited by many Christian pilgrims. The olive trees present in this garden are said to be at least 900 years old. Carbon dating places these trees as far back as 1092 AD.

About 100 meters north of the church is the Grotto of Gethsemane, where Jesus and his disciples often camped at night. In this natural grotto, it is believed, the disciples slept while Jesus prayed, and Jesus was betrayed by Judas and arrested.
