Eilat

Eilat (Resort Town, Southern Israel) – for those staying in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, there are bus lines such as Egged (www.eged.co.il) that transport passengers to Eilat — a popular resort town and port which are located on the northern tip of the Red Sea. Those renting a car can also drive to Eilat as well. Its hotels & beaches typically have thousands of Israeli vacationers and tourists from other parts of the world. This resort town is relatively new (the city and port were developed during the 1950s, while the tourism industry and its hotels took off during the late 1960s).

Along with swimming and water sports, a favored activity here is diving. To the south of Eilat is the Coral Reserve (where tropical fish can be found among the reefs). Given its location in the Gulf of Aqaba, as many as 250,000 dives are performed annually by the shores of Eilat. This resort town is treated by many as the ultimate oasis, since (aside from the Red Sea), its outskirts are the Negev Desert, along with some mountains.
